Youth sports organizations vary widely across the country on how they‘re run, how their structure is set up, and who is responsible for handling issues that arise. However, you’ll find one commonality among all leagues – no matter which sport or geographical region, they rely on parents volunteering their time to keep everything running smoothly.
There is a multitude of volunteer jobs to which parents can lend a hand. Field maintenance is one essential area where volunteers can spend their time. It takes dedicated volunteers and the right irrigation system to keep the grounds gameday-ready. Does your team or organization have the irrigation equipment it needs?
Why Your Field Needs Water
Why do little leagues need sports field sprinkler products? Water is one of the most crucial factors when attempting to keep your little league fields healthy and safe. If your field or fields don’t receive enough water, the soil cracks, holes develop, turf dies, and additional maintenance is required before children can safely play.
Adequate amounts of water help the turf establish roots. Watering the grass one or two times a week and letting the water saturate deeply into the soil helps the roots grow to a depth of four to six inches. A healthy root system allows a field to stand up to the wear and tear of frequent games. Disease and insects are less dangerous to the field with healthy roots in place.
Heat, sunlight, wind, humidity, and other climate factors affect how much water is lost from the soil each day. Using a soil probe to monitor the moisture present in the soil helps you plan your irrigation needs without overwatering. Overwatering invites disease and weeds into your ball field.
Why Big Sprinkler Products Make Sense
Since parents are often the ones volunteering to handle field maintenance for their community fields, it’s important that irrigation is done both easily and efficiently. Keeping the cost of equipment minimal is important too since most leagues are run on fundraisers and donations.
Big Sprinkler has an option to fit your needs. No matter which wheeled sprinkler carts you choose they provide the following benefits:
- Able to cover a large area – The sprinklers are able to turn in a full or part circle and cover up to 175 feet in diameter depending on the model chosen.
- Easy to move – The carts are on wheels and are easily moved from one location to another.
- Durably made – Every sprinkler cart has a baked-on powder coating finish to help it stand up to wear and tear.
- Long-lasting – Since all the parts are made with care and high-quality materials, they won’t break as often as a cheap, big box store brand would. This saves both time and money by keeping you from having to continually purchase new sprinklers.
- More cost-effective than a built-in system – You don’t have to tear up the field and re-plant it or install expensive equipment.
- Less labor-intensive – You don’t need a large staff to lay lateral lines when using one of these sprinklers.
Which Sprinkler Do I Need?
There is a wheeled sprinkler cart that will help solve all your irrigation woes. Deciding which model is right for you depends on what kind of connection there is to your water source. Before you can make any decisions or pick your favorite, find where your water source is and see what kind of connection it has.
Some fields are supplied by a standard residential spigot and water hose connector. Others are more advanced with larger supply lines and various connection sizes that can supply larger volumes of water. Larger supply lines will often use “Quick Valves” as a connection point.
If you have a standard residential connection, the 1000F Wheeled Sprinkler Cart is for you. It is the largest sprinkler cart that hooks to a standard garden hose. It comes with a variety of nozzles to choose from for you to get the proper spray from your sprinkler head to your turf. You will put more water on the fields in less time with this sprinkler than with any other option that connects to a garden hose.
If you find that your field is equipped with a quick coupling valve, you will be able to choose from the 1250K Wheeled Sprinkler Cart or the 1500H Wheeled Sprinkler Cart, depending on how much flow and water pressure you are able to pump through your pipes. These options will help you move more water onto the field in less time than the 1000F cart can if you have the water capabilities to support them.

It’s true that in most parts of America we no longer need horses to manage day-to-day activities. Most people no longer use them as transportation or for farm equipment. However, necessary or not, you’ll still find a deep and abiding love for them wherever you go.
Trail riding, polo, rodeo events, livestock shows, dressage, and horse racing are only a few of the popular activities in which horses become partners with their riders. Keeping the equine half of the partnership healthy is as important to successful activities as the health of the human partner. In fact, at times it’s more difficult since the horse can’t talk and tell a doctor when they begin to feel under the weather.
One simple way to keep horses feeling well is to keep their living and exercise areas free from unnecessary dust. While the dust itself may not be harmful, letting it build up results in accumulation in the horse’s nasal passages, sinus cavities, and lungs. This can create some problems and intensify others. Continue reading to find out how using a dust suppression unit can be beneficial for equine health.
Common Equine Ailments Due to Dust
We talked about dust accumulation with veterinarian Dr. Brett Boatsman D.V.M. who works at Neel Veterinary Hospital in Oklahoma City. He reminded us of an interesting fact we hadn’t thought of prior to our conversation.
“One of the big things most people don’t think of is that horses are obligate nasal breathers,” Dr. Boatsman said. “This means they can’t breathe through their mouths. And of course, if you’re working in a super dusty environment, you’ll have all that dust in your nose when you blow it. The same thing happens to horses – they’ll have all that in their nasal cavities too.”
He went on to discuss two common ailments related to dust that equine patients face. The first is when the nasolacrimal duct becomes clogged with dust and must be flushed.
If you are like us here at Big Sprinkler, you’re probably not be familiar with the official names for horse body parts. We do know the main function of the duct is to drain tears away from the eyes allowing them to clear the eyes of foreign material and drain it to the nostrils.
“There is a tear duct that runs from the eye down through the sinus cavity to the nostril,” Dr. Boatsman said. “There’s a little opening in the nostril. In dusty climates, you’ll see dust in that duct and the tears from the eyes can’t drain through the duct. It will cause the eyes and the whole area to matt up with mucus.”
As humans who suffer from allergies and common cold symptoms, we can understand this kind of ailment. However, as noted earlier, horses can’t use the option to breathe through their mouths – they must breathe through their noses. This causes the horses additional suffering. To correct it, a veterinarian must step in.
“You have to sedate the horse and stick a little catheter up the duct inside the nose and thread it in there,” Dr. Boatman said. “You have to take sterile water and flush the duct. You have to keep flushing it until it the sterile water comes out of the eye area.”
Another common health issue intensified by dust is called heaves. Heaves is also known as recurrent airway obstruction (RAO) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is “a chronic, non-infectious airway condition … that occurs in horses more than six years of age and is the result of an allergic reaction to inhaled particles” as defined by The Equine Hospital at Colorado State University.
While the dust does not cause heaves, it causes , symptoms that cause the horse to be unable to exercise at a normal level, much like asthma in humans. There is no cure for heaves, but the No. 1 treatment for this condition is to remove as much dust, including the allergens, from the horse’s living environment.
How Big Sprinkler Can Help
One popular and simple way to keep dust under control in an equine arena is by using water. You simply coat the dust particles, causing them to stick together and become heavier than the air so they don’t blow around.
Changing the footing, or the material under the horses’ feet in an arena, can be incredibly expensive. Using chemicals can be costly, a danger to the environment, and cause additional health problems for both humans and horses. However, water is relatively inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and generally readily available. You can learn additional information on our blog about how and why water is used for dust suppression.
Getting the right amount of water onto the footing of your equine space can be tricky. For both indoor and outdoor arenas, you want to make sure you get the ground wet enough to suppress the dust, deep enough so it doesn’t dry out too quickly, but not so much that you have muddy areas or puddles.
“You have to make sure not to overwater and make it muddy,” Dr. Boatsman said. “It will put too much stress on the tendons as the horse is trotting through there.”
This is where using a Big Sprinkler product can help. If you are interested in setting up a sprinkler to handle your dust suppression duties and then walking away, one of our traveling sprinklers might be the perfect product for you. The Reel Green RG20 and the Reel Green RG25 can both be set up to use the pressure from the hose to retract the reel and then turn themselves off when they’re finished watering.
Other great options we offer are wheeled sprinkler carts. Each of the carts is made in the United States and the sprinkler heads are made of top quality materials. The wheeled carts make it easy to move them from place to place and the quality of the sprinklers ensures you won’t be worrying about leaks for years to come.
Each of the models starting with the 1000F, moving up with the 1250K, and even the 1500H are able to handle a larger amount of water and will, therefore, output a larger diameter spray. Check out each of the product pages to learn more about the specific benefits for each model.

Even if you don’t dream about thick, green grass or gardens full of vibrant flowers, we’re sure you know how to use a sprinkler. You can find one in the front yard — or in the garage — of almost every house in any neighborhood.
They’re tools which create a solution for a specific need, right? Your grass and other plants need water for survival and with the help of a hose, your commercial lawn sprinklers deliver it directly to the spots where it’s needed most.
Wait, how many other ways can you think of to use a big sprinkler? We don’t mean using it as a night light … obviously, that won’t work. Although you could use it as a hat stand, we suppose. But which other situations could be more efficiently handled with a Big Sprinkler product?
We have a few ideas. Keep reading to check out these other uses for a Big Sprinkler.
Keeping the Dust at Bay
Keeping dust from hanging around in the air you breathe is important. Water is often used to suppress the dust in various circumstances. We’ve listed a couple where using a Big Sprinkler product could be a better option than the commonly accepted method.
Equine Health
When you own horses, you know barns and exercise arenas get dusty. Humans suffer from respiratory issues caused by dust and horses can too. In fact, since horses only breathe through their nostrils, a dusty living space can be a more serious health hazard for them, since humans can choose to breathe orally.
It’s popular for equine caretakers to water down stables and arenas, coating the dust particles to make them stick together, and therefore making them heavier than the air. Using one of our wheeled sprinkler carts or traveling sprinklers makes it easy to get a professional-grade sprinkler system that is also easy to move.
Construction Sites
It’s hard to build anything very large without disturbing some topsoil. Once the soil is excavated or loosened, it’s inevitable that the wind will lift it, take it on a journey, and deposit it somewhere no one wants it to be.
On massive building or road construction sites sprayer trucks dampen the dirt and keep the dust from flying. Whether your construction site is big or small, there are Big Sprinkler products to do the trick. Whether you need a heavy-duty wheeled sprinkler cart like the 3000R Heavy Duty Sprinkler Cart with Wheels, 2000S Heavy Duty 2-Wheel Sprinkler Cart or a commercial quad stand with one of the commercial-grade sprinkler heads attached, there’s a solution to your dusty situation.
Growing Your Hobbies
The activities you enjoy during your “off-work” hours are deserving of great equipment too. We’re sure there are more, but we’ve listed two of our favorites.
Little League Fields
Parents across the country volunteer countless hours taking care of little league recreational sports fields. Keeping the sod, grass, turf, etc. in top-quality condition for the sports their children obsess over is hard work and takes huge chunks of personal time. There’s little doubt that many little leagues would benefit from using Big Sprinkler products.
Investing in and using commercial-grade sprinklers heads, wheeled sprinkler carts, or even traveling sprinklers can help cut the amount of time spent watering the fields. Additionally, the high-quality parts stand up to the test of time and won’t have to be replaced season after season.
Deer Plots
Hunters are serious about their season. However, even out of season, many choose to plant food plots to keep the animals healthy and help them bulk up for hunting season. In many areas, an irrigation solution is needed to keep the food plots growing.
Using one of our wheeled sprinkler carts or irrigation system kits allows for flexibility and movement in order to maximize your food plots potential.
Still More Ideas
There are as many uses for our products as there are needs for water. For instance, you can use them to keep barn and farm animals cool in hot weather. Simply turn on the sprinkler regularly and watch the animals enjoy it.
What kind of ideas do you have for using Big Sprinkler products that we haven’t thought of or listed? We’d love to know! Stop by our Facebook page and let us know what you’re doing or what you’d like to try, and we’ll help you come up with a plan and the right products for success.
The old saying goes, “time flies when you’re having fun,” and cliché or no, we believe it’s true. The past 10 years creating irrigation solutions flew by. Join us in celebration of our anniversary by looking back at how we got here.
It hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve stayed true to the heart of our mission – to create reliable and durable commercial-grade products, which solve the problems our customers face. You won’t find products like ours in big box stores. Find out how we got started below!
The Beginning
The story of Big Sprinkler starts with the need for a specific type of sprinkler. The (not yet created) sprinkler would land on the spectrum between the industrial-size agricultural sprinklers and cheap lawn sprinklers you replace every couple of seasons.
People across the country who owned hobby farms, massive gardens, lawns that span acres, and horse arenas looked for larger sprinklers that also fit the descriptions of versatile, dependable, and durable. We recognized a gap in the marketplace, and since we had experience with large sprinklers, we started tinkering with designs.
After creating the initial design, testing, finding flaws, and correcting mistakes, we released our first Big Sprinkler product, the Single 1000F Wheeled Sprinkler Cart.
This sprinkler cart hasn’t changed much since its inception and is made from heavy gauge steel with a “baked on” powder coat finish. It uses a brass garden hose swivel and is the largest sprinkler cart you can operate with a standard garden hose. The commercial-grade sprinkler head comes with five nozzles so you can match your sprinkler’s output to your water supply.
The sprinkler doesn’t disappoint once the water starts flowing. With each use of the sprinkler you can set it to spray in either a full and partial circle and the spray will reach up to 120 feet in diameter. When you’re done irrigating in one spot, you simply roll the sprinkler cart to the next dry area.
As the 1000F took off, our customers started asking questions about bigger sprinkler carts, heavier duty hoses, pumps to boost the water supply capacity, and about a thousand other issues they faced. It was then we began to build bigger carts, find top-quality options for pumps and hoses, and innovate new products to address our customers’ issues.
We Listen to Our Customers
“During the 10 years we’ve been Big Sprinkler, we talked with customers,” Rod Bloom, National Sales Rep says. “Just about every time we started a new project or hunted for a new product it was because our customers needed something they couldn’t find. Our decisions are always customer driven. They are why we select certain products and the reason we design our products the way we do.”
Customer ideas and requests start the ball rolling for new product ideas. Our overall goal is to build products of quality. These are commercial grade solutions for people who aren’t working with commercial situations.
“Our Lay Flat Hose Reel was a customer driven product,” Rod explains. “People reached out to us looking for this specific product – one that would handle their flat hoses easily – and we took on the project. It was a year worth of trial and error developing the design before we had a working product to share with our customers.”
Quality Matters
Competitors have attempted to use our carts for inspiration, but they’ve always outsourced the work to another country, causing the quality to be less than desirable. The standards we keep in mind for our customers – ease of use, durability, and quality – will never be compromised.
We’re always proud that our products are built in our own backyard. In fact, we think it shows. While we may not always sell the cheapest product, we know it’s the highest quality and the longest-lasting sprinkler of its kind.
“We want people to be happy with what they purchase, and we only carry the products we believe will best serve the customer,” Rod said. “We created an anniversary edition – a limited number of special sprinkler carts – because we’re excited about 10 years selling the 1000F.”
The anniversary edition 1000F Wheeled Sprinkler Cart is only available until the supply runs out, but if you’re interested click here for more information.
Most of all we’re thankful to our customers. Without your trust, suggestions, and feedback throughout the years, we don’t know what Big Sprinkler would be now. We’re always waiting to learn more from you.
We’re ready to chat about your issues — whether you’re looking for something you can’t find, or you want to let us know how our products are doing. You can contact us directly on our website or reach us on Facebook any time. We can’t wait to meet you.
Maybe yours is the next idea we need to design an all-new irrigation solution.
When you find yourself needing more water to irrigate your crops, pasture, or deer food plot but a sprinkler from the local hardware store simply won’t cut it — it’s time for a Big Sprinkler. But, what do you do if you don’t have a well or plumbing onsite as a water source?
If you have access to a pond, stream, or reservoir, all you need is a couple of hoses and the right pump added to your sprinkler and you’ll have the perfect irrigation solution. However, finding all those parts individually and making sure they work together is difficult and overwhelming. That’s why our complete water irrigation kit does all the hard work for you.
You’re probably thinking, “Wait, what’s in a kit and how do I know which one I need?” Don’t worry. Keep reading for all the information you’ll need to get started.
What is a Complete Irrigation Kit?
Since matching the proper pump to the right sprinkler is vital if you want everything to work correctly, we’ve simply created an easy-to-assemble packaged solution that can be ready to do your irrigation work within minutes.
Each water irrigation kit was designed for both the pump and sprinkler cart’s operation to reach optimum performance levels and includes the pump, a wheeled sprinkler cart, a suction hose with a strainer, and a discharge hose.
All the wheeled sprinkler carts in our kits are made with heavy-gauge steel pipe and a steel axle protected by a powder-coat finish. Each of our commercial-grade sprinkler heads can be set to spray in a full-circle pattern or a partial one.
The pumps included in the kits are all gas-powered and are either self-priming or include systems designed to make them easy to prime.
The suction and discharge hoses are high-quality, non-collapsible, and fitted with Quick Connect Fittings which shorten setup time and makes the whole process a breeze.
As a bonus, it’s free to ship any of our complete irrigation kits anywhere in the continental U.S. after purchase.
What’s the Difference Between the Complete Irrigation Kits?
We’ve created four kits so you can pick the pump and sprinkler cart combination that works best for your individual needs. If you’re looking for detailed information about the performance of any product listed below, visit the individual product page on our website and click on the specifications tab to learn more.
1000F Complete Irrigation Kit
This water irrigation kit includes our smallest, but most popular 1000F Wheeled Sprinkler Cart which includes a commercial-grade sprinkler head, has a flow range of 5-25 gallons per minute, and can spray up 120 feet in diameter.
The included pump is the 6.5 HP Kohler Medium Pressure Pump. This gas-powered pump is made with an American-made cast-aluminum case and cast-iron suction and discharge ports. It sets up in minutes and includes a low-oil safety shut down.
1250K Complete Irrigation Kit
A step-up in size from the previous kit, this one includes the 1250K Wheeled Sprinkler Cart, uses the commercial-grade 1-1/4” impact-style sprinkler head, and performs within the 10-50 gallon-per-minute flow rate. The water coverage circle wets up to 150 feet in diameter.
The pump chosen for performance with this kit is the 5.5 HP High Pressure Honda GX Series Recoil Start Engine pump. It is also made with cast aluminum and cast iron but includes rubber footing and a heavy-duty roll cage as well.
1500H Complete Irrigation Kit
When you choose this kit, you’ll get the 1500H Wheeled Sprinkler Cart which uses the commercial-grade Sime Hidra Impact Drive Sprinkler. It handles a flow capacity of 30-140 gallons-per-minute and uses a solid rubber tire mounted on steel rims. This kit’s circle of coverage can reach more than 200 feet in diameter.
The IPT 9HP Honda High-Pressure Pump is made with cast aluminum and also features the rubber footing and heavy-duty roll cage. However, it features a self-lubricated EPDM/EPR mechanical pump seal.
2000S Complete Irrigation Kit
The largest of the kits, this one includes the 2000S Wheeled Sprinkler Cart which comes standard with an ATV tow hitch and large floatation pneumatic tires. It handles 40-200 gallon-per-minute flow rates and can create a coverage circle of more than 250 feet.
The heavy-duty Kohler High Pressure FP25K 14HP Pump is a high-performance, large-diameter, closed impeller design with a simple to use diaphragm priming system for quick priming. It’s made from cast aluminum and features a powder-coated steel roll cage.
What Else Should I Know About Complete Irrigation Kits?
All four of the Complete Irrigation Kits are designed to be used anywhere you’d want to use one of our wheeled sprinkler carts that doesn’t have a well or other pressurized water system available for use.
This type of setup brings flexibility and portability to your irrigation situations and you’ll be able to adapt it based on your current needs. For instance, instead of using the kit to pull water from a water source, you can use the pump as a booster for an existing system and add an additional sprinkler.
People purchase the kits for use in all sorts of situations including:
- Large gardens
- Hobby farms
- Arena dust control
- Deer food plots
- Construction site dust control
- Sports fields
- Remediation and other environmentally related landscape work
We know that not everyone needs a Complete Irrigation Kit, but for people who do, the ease and quick setup that comes after the purchase of a kit were our motivation in creating them. Our mission is to be here for you and to help you solve the irrigation problems you face. If you need to add more hoses to your kit or customize it in any way, just reach out to us.
If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to consult on anything to make sure what you’re looking to purchase will fulfill your needs.
